New PLT cooling tower for mine in Victoria, Australia

IWCAustralasia recently teamed up with an Australian based EPC specialist, to supply and install our PLT cooling towers to a gold mine near Victoria. The IWC towers are used in conjunction with the condenser circuit of the surface refrigeration plant to facilitate the production of gold at the mine.

The PLT towers were designed by our design team based in South Africa according to specific site conditions that included wet bulb temperature, the desired outlet and inlet temperature and the flow rate/volume of the water required for the tower. Our PLT range of towers are cost effective, easily installed and maintained… the ideal solution for hard-to-reach area’s or remote sites.

Challenge

As the mine is exposed to the harsh Australian sun, the current towers were in dire need of replacement due to the poor water quality and varied ambient conditions affecting the towers performance. We specified our PLT cooling tower as a solution as the towers are produced with non-corroding materials that ensure that there is no degradation of the tower, over time.

Solution

The bespoke designed PLT389 cooling tower was delivered in “stick format” which made for easy transportation in shipping containers. Materials including steel fabrication parts, stainless steel louvres, fibreglass cladding and distribution system, including our IWC proprietary nozzles were shipped from South Africa to the port of Melbourne before being road freighted to site. A combination of polypropylene fill was used to ensure the optimum flow efficiency of the tower due to poor water quality. A team of 6 IWC personnel built the towers from
